Perfect Timing
We are still plugging away at our big little remodeling project. Who knew this would become a DIY blog...at least for now, that's what it is. I'm still regretting this decision just a little. It's like that book...If You Give A Mouse A Cookie...He's going to want some milk...
Every minute of the day seems to be filled with some new challenge, problem, a tool we don't own, tackling things we know nothing about. This has definitely been a learning curve for us but all the same, it's been 'fun' to work alongside the boys to get this done.
So far, we have torn out all the old flooring, laid down brand new sub floor, removed the fireplace tile and made 50 trips to the dump...at least!
Many times, I have reflected on how lucky we are to have each other and how, even though things seem to be falling apart, they are really falling into place. Spencer didn't plan to be home for more than a week but his schedule opened up which is very rare. He literally had no work for two weeks. It has been awesome having him here because he has laid flooring before for a friend. His knowledge and strength has been invaluable.
I bought my flooring material from a local, family owned company. I drove out to their warehouse to pick up the flooring. I had no concept of how much 700 sq. feet of plank flooring would be but I wasn't too worried. I have hauled just about everything imaginable in my little tiny clown of a car. For the duration of this project, I have strapped 6 sheets of strand board to my roof, boards equal to the width and length of my entire vehicle! So, I was pretty sure if needed, I could make a few trips to get the floor home. When I paid the bill and was ready to start loading, the owner kindly offered to put the entire pallet of floor in his truck and follow me back to town. Without his kindness, it would have taken me 4 trips!
Spencer and I got started as soon as we could on Wednesday evening and when Sam got home from his long day at work, he helped us. Even Shelbie wanted to learn how to lay flooring so the boys patiently taught her how to measure, use the saw and snap the floating floor together. For an hour or two, it was so fun working altogether. It wasn't until 2 am on the 4th that we decided to call it a day.
We just have the kitchen left to do and the new tile around the fireplace...Oh, did I mention that was being redone as well? That little project definitely didn't go as planned, it has turned into a new sheet rock job too!
Oh well, such is life. Strangely enough, as we are moving into the home stretch on this project, Spencer's work has picked back up and he heads back to Utah today. I can't help but think it was divine intervention that he had a lull in his work because there is no way, I could have done this without his expertise and help.
